The “Unfold Workshop” explored the relationship between designs made out of sheet paper and design space materialization. Design, Fabrication and Installation were carried out with a group of 13 students within six days. The forms that have been explored through making paper origami models by the students were evaluated and the chosen designs were simulated using Kangaroo for the sake of geometry optimization. Then a structural analysis was conducted using Karamba and the stresses were evaluated to avoid issues after installation. Once the geometry was ready for production, the laser cutting files were prepared by the students and components were nested on the available material inventory. Components were laser cut out of polypropylene sheets by the students and assembled with zip ties accordingly, forming a 1:1 folding pavilion. The final installation was showcased during the Milan Design Week in 2015 at FuoriSalone, Ventura-Lambrate district, by SBODIO32.
